STAR Learning Walk Process

Prior to Observation

• Identify off campus host school, and seek host classrooms in a variety of grades and subject areas.
• Call, and send letter to principal of host school describing the process.
• Review Sample Letter to Host Schools.
• Confirm schedule, host teachers, and room to be used for debriefs and planning.
• Purchase Thank You cards for host teachers.

Day of Observation (Morning)

• Arrive 30 minutes early
• Three rounds of 30-minute observations followed by 45-minute debriefs
• 30-minute lunch

Day of Observation (Afternoon)

• 30 minutes to synthesize learning from the whole day and commit in Journal Pages for Live Observations
• 90 minutes to use online lesson planner to develop a lesson for use in observers’ own classrooms on the next school day
• Be sure all participants have created and are successfully able to login into online accounts at http://www.starlessonplanner.com
• Before leaving the host building, sign Thank You cards. Hand off to the office secretary or school principal a card, gifts of appreciation, and a copy of STAR Protocol for each host teacher.
